About Väven

Väven is a platform for culture and experiences in Umeå, where people and ideas are woven together – hence the name (transl. “the Weave”). By creating conditions for new collaborations between small and large players in Umeå, this is a place for a broad spectrum of experiences. In Väven, culture is offered in its widest form: from music to food, lectures to recreation, the spontaneous and the organized, private or business.

Spearheading Väven are Fort Knox and Umeå municipality in a bold collaboration – a partnership between two players sharing a common vision. The joint venture company Väven i Umeå AB owns and runs the Väven building, and also rents space to Fort Knox and Umeå municipality.

Umeå municipality and Fort Knox hired the Swedish architecture firm White Arkitekter and Norwegian Snöhetta to create an architectural landmark of the highest international standards.

Umeå municipality are using some 15 000 square meters in Väven, where most of the space is tailored for various forms of creativity. Here, you will find Umeå City Library on three floors, the Museum of Women’s History, several creativity workshops, cinemas, venues for art and much more. Several of the modern and creative rooms can be rented or booked by the public. Learn more about making a booking request in the menu below.

At the indoor courtyard called Torget you will find Stora Hotellet, the U&Me hotel, Gotthards krog, Två Fiskare, Kulturbageriet, DUÅ Delikatesser and Linne & Grankvist. Floor 5 is dedicated to the conference arena P5.
